Barbariga, a small region in south west Istria governed by the City Council of Vodnjan, is getting a new resort with swimming pools, a wellness centre, conference centre and commercial areas.

The company Barbariga Nova will build the new resort on plots with total area of 13,400 m2 only 150 meters from the sea by Marić bay. The CEO of Barbriga Nova, Vesna Glavić, announced the construction of a four star hotel with supporting facilities along with public and commercial facilities.

The investment for the new ‘’Vitality Complex’’ is worth € 11.5 million. The planned construction should begin at the end of this year. It should be noted that the company Barbariga Nova was the only bidder for the right to build.

The CEO Vesna Glavić states: ‘’We noted that the coast lacks hotel facilities, and four years ago we started to buy land for the hotel but it was not enough so we approached the City of Vodnjan. In November 2013, we presented the project and received a positive response. Our goal is to have a year round business, strengthened to the capacity of four stars and equipped for congress tourism. We will raise the standard of tourist apartment services which will enhance the potential of Barbariga region with 1,600 beds. The center will employ around 40 permanent employees and this number will be increased when the capacity increases to up to 58’’.

The planned four star hotel will have approx. 130 rooms and suites with additional 35 apartments. The hotel’s indoor space should cover a total of 8,500 m2 and an annex with 4,000 m2. The hotel will also have two 25 meter pools, one indoor and one outdoor. In addition the resort will also have a large wellness center, a gym and a congress hall with 300 seats. The ground floors of the resort will have approx. 1,500 m2 of commercial space available for rent.
