Montenegro's Sveti Stefan, the hotel island linked to the mainland, is due for a huge makeover by the glamorous international hotel chain Amanresorts.  'Intimate and inviting luxury'. According to their website Amanresorts state: Guests are made to feel at home. The emphasis is on small not big. The resorts are designed in a traditional style.
With hotels across the globe in: France, Indonesia, French Polynesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Morocco, The Philippines, USA, Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka and the the Turks and Caicos - Montenegro can soon be included in the list.
The Sveti Stefan hotel itself occupies a former fisherman's village built in the 15th century as a fortified settlement to protect against pirates. It was converted in 1960 then and was the host for many Hollywood celebrities, however fell into decline with the glamour fading in the 1990's due to the Balkan wars. Its 118 small rooms will be replaced next year by 25 suites and a spa.
