A local newspaper recently reported how Dubrovnik will look in the year 2020 given that there are so many projects started or are in the pipeline. Here are a list of main projects which will improve the area.  * Golf course with real estate of aparthotels, apartments, and villas. Potential investor is Clint Eastwood. 200 million.
* The 3.1 million highway will offer better connections with middle Europe. From Budapest, through Sarajevo and to Ploce, with a connection to Dubrovnik 2010.
* The port of Gruz will be regenerated with a new cruise ship terminal, straightened quay for more ships to dock, hotel, offices, conference and shop facilities. Totalling 25.2 million.
* The marina in Gruz will have more area for superyachts to dock and a boulevard created surrounding the area right round to the Orsan yacht club.
* Underground garaging 2010. 17 million.
* Congress Centre on Babin Kuk, Lapad, capacity 3,000 people.
* The Elafiti Island of Kolocep will be known as the 'island of knowledge' with a business school aiming at foreign students who can learn in peace and seclusion. 26 million.
* Renovated sports centre in Lapad.
* Near Gruz there will be a shopping centre, hotel and business centre. 20 million.
* Montovjerna near the Old City there will be new student accommodation.
* Hotel Libertas due for re-opening 2007. 35 million.
* Old Hospital will be recreated into a university.
* 2nd underground garage at Ploce gate below the cable car station. 20 million.
* New lighting around the Old City walls. 1 million.
* Renovation of the Hotel Belvedere, with Hyatt Hotels.
* 33 million investment at the airport for completion 2010 with proposed increase in annual passenger capacity from 1 million to 2 million.
* Konavle county to see contemporary private villas with pools.
10 years ago after the war, 1m2 in the Old City would set you back 700DM, however now in exceptional circumstances you can find 1m2 for 10,000 euros.
The cruise ships returned the first tourists to Dubrovnik after the war and have continued in rising numbers every year. Now 5-6 cruisers, even 9 ships can be seen on the busiest days.
The government want to see Dubrovnik continue with elite tourism and to be known for this as well as have an educational edge to the area. Future managers and politicians are hoped to emerge from their universities and business schools in Dubrovnik. |
